Outdoor swimming pool cost in the UK: what to budget
What an outdoor pool costs in the UK
Most in-ground outdoor pools in the UK fall between £30,000 and £150,000, with many quality residential projects landing between £70,000 and £180,000 once design, installation, plant and surrounding works are included. This is subject to location and other factors.
The table below gives indicative ranges by pool type. These are starting points for planning, not fixed quotes. A detailed price depends on the specific model, finish and site.
What drives the cost
Several factors determine where a project sits within these ranges. Understanding them early helps you set the right budget and avoid surprises during the build.
• Pool type and construction. One-piece composite pools arrive factory-built and install quickly. Concrete pools are built in stages on site and take longer, which raises labour cost.
• Size and depth. Larger and deeper pools need more excavation, more water, and more heating, all of which increase both the build cost and the running cost.
• Site access. Restricted access can require cranes, road closures or specialist lifting. This is a common cost driver on prestige residential sites.
• Ground conditions. Rock, heavy clay or a high water table increases excavation and groundwork costs. A site survey identifies this before work starts.
• Finishes and features. Infinity edges, automatic covers, premium tiling, heating upgrades and integrated lighting all add to the specification.
• Landscaping. The terracing, paving and planting around the pool often represents a substantial share of the overall project value.
Installation and site factors that change the price
Site conditions can have as much influence on cost as the pool itself. Our Forest Hill project shows how access dictates the installation approach. Installing a 12.5m RivieraPool Linear RS at the base of a sloping garden required a road closure, a 14-metre telehandler, a 60-tonne crane and a mobile gantry to lift the pool over the house and into position.
The one-piece construction kept on-site disruption to a minimum despite the scale of the lift, and the finished infinity-edge pool sits within fully landscaped grounds alongside a cedar barrel sauna.
Projects like this show why an accurate quote depends on a site assessment rather than a headline figure. Access, levels and ground conditions are assessed before any price is confirmed.
Running and lifecycle costs
The purchase price is only part of the picture. Annual running costs for a UK outdoor pool typically range from £1,500 to £5,000, depending on size, how the pool is heated, and how often it is used. An air source heat pump and a good cover are the two changes that most reduce ongoing energy cost.
Budgeting for running and maintenance costs from the outset gives a true view of ownership. Specifying efficient heating, a quality cover and a well-designed plant setup at the design stage keeps these figures at the lower end of the range.

Here we discuss what an outdoor swimming pool costs in the UK, what drives the price, and where the budget actually goes.
Outdoor swimming pool cost in the UK varies widely because no two projects are the same. Pool type, size, site access, ground conditions, and the level of landscaping all move the figure. And the guidance below reflects current market ranges and is intended to help you plan a realistic budget before you commission detailed design.
Getting an accurate quote
A reliable price for an outdoor pool comes from a proper design and site assessment, not a generic estimate. The ranges on this page will help you plan, but the final figure depends on your site, the model you choose, and the surrounding works you want.

Project focus – Forest Hill
Forest Hill is a 12.5 metre one-piece outdoor pool delivered to a sloping site near Manchester.
The installation required a road closure, a 60 tonne crane, a mobile gantry and a 14 metre telehandler to manoeuvre the pool into position. The pool was craned over the house and placed at the base of the landscaped garden, with an infinity edge creating a seamless visual connection to the wider landscape.
A cedar barrel sauna was integrated into a nearby stone wall to complete the wellness concept. Read the full Forest Hill case study.

Chris Jenkins, Managing Director of CSPAS, comments;
“Large gardens give us real design freedom, but an outdoor pool still has to be engineered to perform. When we are involved early, we can coordinate with the architect and landscape designer, remove risk from the programme and deliver a pool that looks right from day one and still performs decades later. That is what makes the difference on high-value projects.”
